The Hot Dog is always eaten on a Hot Dog bun. De sausage, originating in Germany, used to be called a Frankfurter, after the city. A butcher from there one day shaped the sausage in the shape of his dog, who happened to be a Dachshund, by putting it in a pointy roll.
A bright German who immigrated to the United States, took the idea and started selling the sausage buns in the streets of New York. A Cartoonist seeing the buns being sold at a baseball game, drew a cartoon of them and added the tekst “Get your Hot Dog”. The name Hot Dog stuck, and is currently a much beloved food in Amerika and round the world.
